Mission Statement
Our mission in life
People Tree's aim is to use fashion as a tool to help the world's most marginalised people.
We work closely with producers and designers to ensure that, not only are all our clothes beautifully crafted, but as many jobs are created as possible so people in developing countries can work their way out of poverty. We also have a duty to protect the environment our partners live in – which is why we do everything as ecologically as possible as well.
How does that work?
Let's say we're making a new top. We don't stop at buying Fair Trade, organic cotton. We'll also use Fair Trade weavers, tailors, embroiderers... In fact every part of the process through the whole supply chain is under scrutiny to ensure it meets Fair Trade standards and is ecologically sound. In our experience, it means that top turns out that extra bit gorgeous too.
That's why People Tree are recognised the pioneers of Fair Trade fashion.
So, we promise...
To support producer partners' efforts toward economic independence and improvement of their social position.
To take care to protect the environment in production, packaging and transportation of products and throughout the business.
To offer customers healthy, safe and beautifully crafted products, together with background information about the products, producers and lifestyle alternatives – giving them an opportunity to participate in a trading partnership that supports people and the environment.
To allow our people to use their ability and creativity as fully as possible in an environment that is nurturing and supportive.
To set an example to the wider general public, to business and to government, of Fair Trade as a form of business which is based on mutual respect between producer, trader and consumer. To develop a business that proves that Fair Trade is successful.
