Organic Production
Organic throughout
Growing organic cotton fibres is only the start of producing a stunning organic garment. Here at People Tree, we reckon there's little point in taking pure and innocent organic cotton fibres to a big, belching garment factory, or saturating them in vats of toxic dye. That'd kind of defeat the object, wouldn't it?
That's why People Tree work with organisations like Assisi Garments – the first Indian clothing manufacturer to receive the Soil Association mark for organic cotton. (They're also a Fair Trade operation, which makes them even better.)
And, as with every part of our production process, we work hard to make sure that all our dyeing has minimum impact on the wearer, the producer and the environment.
So, we only use dyes that are free from harmful chemicals and carry out stringent laboratory tests for traces of these substances. And we work alongside our producers to ensure that effluent from the dyeing process is handled responsibly.
We also support the development and use of natural dyes, made from locally sourced natural materials that are free from toxic chemicals.
That's why the Soil Association now certifies most of our cotton items.
We're proud of these achievements, but although the organic sector is growing fast it is still tiny by comparison. In the UK, organic cotton sales makes up only 0.01% of the market.
You can help change this right now by doing a bit of shopping!
