“The True Cost is a documentary film about the effects of the global clothing industry on people and the planet.”
This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?
Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.
People Tree was delighted to have contributed to The True Cost film. Our business model & producers were featured as best, responsible practice. Our founder & CEO, Safia Minney also features, in a candid interview on the real impact of fast fashion and how slow fashion is not only fair, it changes lives.
“Andrew, Michael R., and Michael F. of the LA based Untold Creative team travelled around with me for one and a half years to Japan, Bangladesh and the UK to document People Tree pioneering a responsible approach to fashion.
I’ve travelled to Milan, New York, Tokyo, and here in London for launch screenings, panel discussions and talked to press (every time I see the movie, it makes me well up inside and cry). I hope you can organize a screening and that it moves you, your team and your community too.” - Safia Minney
The powerful film exposes the true human and ecological cost of fashion – factors like human suffering and environmental damage that are not reflected in a garment’s price tag.
Andrew Morgan hopes the film will also point to solutions, as he interviews ethical fashion leaders, such as Livia Firth & Lucy Siegle, including People Tree’s Founder and CEO Safia Minney:
“More then just underscoring the problem, this is an effort to highlight real solutions that every day people can take part in. Our goal is to impact consumer behavior that in turn impacts corporate and government policy decisions. The road we are on simply is not sustainable, but there is an opportunity here; a defining moment in history for us to set a new precedent for the future we will create.”
